Carpal Tunnel Syndrome- Tucson AZ Treatment Therapists
Carpal tunnel syndrome is pressure on the median nerve -- the nerve in the wrist that supplies feeling and movement to parts of the hand. It can lead to numbness, tingling, weakness, or muscle damage in the hand and fingers. Some of the symptoms of Carpal Tunnel syndrome can include, numbness or tingling in the thumb and next two or three fingers of one or both hands or palm, pain extending to the elbow and wrist and hands, problems with fine finger movements (coordination) in one or both hands, weak grip or difficulty carrying bags (a common complaint) and weakness in one or both hands. Frequent cases of carpal tunnel can come from repeated motions where the wrists are not in an ergonomic position, like extensive computer use, or repeated motions of the wrist in an extended position.
Therapy for carpal tunnel syndrome can involve treatment to help prevent and relieve the pain as well as help correct arm/hand positions to prevent further problems. A treatment for carpal tunnel syndrome would include massage to the forearm muscles, hand and wrist, exercises, if necessary, to help stretch and strengthen supporting muscles and teach proper arm/wrist placement and positions, and hot/cold packs if needed.
